Defensive Tactics

Prey are generally alert and watchful, always keeping an eye out for predators.  Many prey defend themselves by using warning signals, by hiding out, by bluffing and distracting the predator, or by grouping together.  Even if all their defenses fail, some animals have such high reproductive rates that they can quickly replace those that were killed.
