Getting Energized

Almost every plant and animal on Earth gets its energy from the Sun.  Plants, algae, and some types of bacteria have the ability to "trap" the Sun's energy.  They are called producers because they store this energy in a form that can be passed on to organisms that consume them. Consumers are animals, bacteria and fungi that obtain energy by eating producers or other consumers.
