What is Energy?

Energy is a fuel that is stored in chemical bonds. When these bonds are broken, energy is released as work, heat or light. Plants build these chemical bonds with help from the sun when they build their body tissues. When an animal eats a plant, the bonds are broken during digestion and the released energy is used for keeping the body warm, moving, growing and reproducing.   Molecules are released back to the plants when an animal dies or excretes and the cycle starts all over again.
